Full site rebuild after extensive fires.
CHALLENGE
An extensive fire rendered the service station beyond repair, requiring the complete demolition of the current buildings, forecourt pump arrangement and ancillary facilities. The site was within a sensitive conservation area, so it needed a sympathetic rebuild to retain its architectural heritage. It was a small restricted site layout with difficult entry and exit access on a busy road. There was also sensitive asbestos site clean-up needed from the neighboring properties, unchartered fuel storage tanks from previous historical developments, poor ground conditions and contaminated soil.
SOLUTION
Wyeth, a Sevan company, managed the rebuild and ensured sensitive clean up. The team designed creative piled foundation solutions to avoid boundary wall issues and substructure designs to overcome existing ground conditions.RESULTS
The replacement service station reflects the style associated with this genre of service stations, adopting a simple uncluttered design solution with a quality build and appearance that was widely accepted by the community, Planning Officers and Mayor.
